A backup nobody has restored is a hope. Inkwell's backups are a ZIP of every table as JSON Lines plus the uploads folder, written by a scheduled job to a folder outside the web root, and restorable from the Desk or from the setup wizard on an empty install.

Making one

Desk, Backups: queue a backup now, or set the schedule and retention. The job writes the ZIP, records the result in the audit log, and prunes files beyond the retention count. Copy the folder off the server with whatever you already use; the file is self-contained.

Restoring

On an existing site, Backups, Restore replaces the content with the backup's after a typed confirmation. On a fresh install, the setup wizard offers Restore from backup when a ZIP is already in the server's backups folder, which is how you move a site to a new server: install, copy the ZIP, restore, done.

What is inside

Every table with its primary keys and identity values preserved, so comments still point at their posts and revisions at their pages. Uploads are included with their paths. The data-protection key ring is not included on purpose; keep it with your server secrets. Read running Inkwell on IIS or Docker for where the folders live.
