Answer Blocks That Search Engines Quote

Inkwell posts carry four optional answer blocks: a 40-60 word answer capsule, a key-facts table, a FAQ and a HowTo. Each is rendered visibly in the page and emitted as schema.org JSON-LD, so search engines and AI answer engines can quote the post without guessing.

Step-by-step

  1. Open the post in the Desk — Sign in, go to Posts and open Answer Blocks That Search Engines Quote.
  2. Find the Blocks panel — Scroll below the editor to the Answer capsule, Key facts, FAQ and HowTo sections.
  3. Change one fact and save — Edit a Key facts value, press Save, then reload the public page and view its source. The table and the JSON-LD have both changed.

Search results and AI answers quote short, self-contained passages. Inkwell gives every post four optional blocks that are written for exactly that: an answer capsule, key facts, a FAQ and a HowTo. Each one is shown to readers in the page and emitted as schema.org JSON-LD for machines.

The answer capsule

Forty to sixty words that answer the title outright. It sits under the heading, before the first paragraph, and is the passage an answer engine is most likely to lift. This post has one; it is the italic paragraph at the top.

Key facts

Labelled facts with units and dates. They render as a compact table and feed the structured data, so a price or a limit can be quoted without the surrounding prose.

FAQ and HowTo

Questions in the reader's own words, each answered in under sixty words, become FAQPage schema. A genuine procedure becomes HowTo. Neither should repeat the body; both should stand alone.

Try it

Open this post in the Desk and look at the Blocks panel. Edit a fact, save, and reload the page: the table and the JSON-LD in the page source change together. The structured-data linter runs on save and reports anything an engine would reject. Then read how AI crawlers see your site and what the Search Console panel measures.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. The capsule appears under the title, key facts render as a small table, the FAQ as expandable questions and the HowTo as numbered steps. Readers see exactly what the structured data describes.
No. A post with no blocks is an ordinary BlogPosting. Fill in only the blocks that genuinely add something; an empty block emits nothing.
View the page source and look for the script tag of type application/ld+json. The Desk also runs a structured-data linter on save and reports problems before you publish.
Yes. Blocks live beside the body in their own fields, so the editor mode makes no difference.

Checked the page source and the FAQPage JSON-LD is there. Does the linter also catch a missing answer?

It does: an empty answer, a duplicate question and a HowTo with one step all show up as errors on save.
