  3. When to use it

Inkwell has two editors. The visual editor is the default; this post was written in the other one.

Switching modes

Open any post in the Desk and choose Markdown from the editor menu. The source is kept as Markdown and rendered to HTML on save, so the public page is identical to a rich-text post: same table of contents, same reading-progress bar, same structured data.

What is supported

  • Headings, lists, links, images and tables
  • Fenced code blocks with language hints
  • Footnotes and task lists
  • Raw HTML where Markdown runs out
var post = new Post { Title = "Hello", EditorMode = "markdown" };

When to use it

Writers who keep notes in plain text, or who paste from a static-site generator, usually prefer Markdown. Everyone else can stay in the visual editor. A post can be switched between the two; the last saved source wins.

Next in this series: answer blocks that search engines quote. For the editing workflow around a draft, see revisions, preview links and scheduling.
