Twenty Layouts, Sixteen Presets

An Inkwell theme is a layout plus a colour preset, chosen in the Desk under Theme and applied on the next page load. Twenty layouts and sixteen presets ship with the platform, every preset has light and dark values, and all fonts are self-hosted with no CDN call.

A theme in Inkwell is two choices: a layout, which decides where things go, and a colour preset, which decides how they look. Both are switched from the Desk under Theme and take effect on the next page load, with no rebuild.

Layouts

Twenty reader layouts ship with the platform, from a dense magazine front page to a single-column essay view. Each one guards its own options, so a layout added later never breaks a site that has not chosen it. The navbar comes in eight variants and every one of them carries site search.

Presets

Sixteen colour presets, each with light and dark values. Two of them, ink and onyx, are dark by design and stay that way regardless of the reader's system setting. Body text contrast is at least 4.5:1 in every preset in both schemes.

Fonts

Every font is self-hosted. There is no call to a font CDN and no third-party script on any public page, which matters both for privacy and for the performance scores that search engines measure. Read choosing fonts for long reads for the typographic reasoning.

Try it

Switch a preset now and come back to this page. Then continue with answer blocks or go back to the start.
